FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What’s on your mind?

If your question isn’t answered below, view our full list of FAQs here.

  • How much do online therapy sessions cost?

Please contact us for rates. More often than not, we are able to find arrangements that work for you.

  • What can I expect for my first online therapy meeting?

The first few sessions are spent getting to know you and identifying the specific goals that will help you bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be.

  • Do you take my insurance?

Natal Counseling is an out-of-network provider. Many insurance plans offer some out-of-network coverage for mental health. More often than not, insurance will cover some of the session cost.

We can provide you with documentation (aka a “Superbill”) that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement of out-of-network benefits.

If you choose to directly contact your insurance company, here are some questions we recommend you ask:

    • How much does my insurance pay for an out-of-network provider?
    • What is the coverage amount per 50-minute therapy session from a licensed clinical psychologist (CPT codes 90834 & 90837)?
    • Does my plan limit how many sessions I can have with an out-of-network provider in a calendar year? If so, what is the limit (e.g. 12 sessions)?
  • Why don't you take my insurance?

Natal Counseling sees clients on a self-pay basis.

We are often asked why we are not in-network with most insurance companies. We believe strongly in protecting your confidentiality.

By not working with insurance companies:

    • A diagnosis label won't become a permanent part of your health records. Insurance requires that clients are given a diagnosis and diagnostic code for billing even when a diagnosis may not be necessary, which can often be the case for people coping with the stress of family building.
    • All information about you, including very personal information, cannot be obtained by your insurance company. Often, several different people handle insurance claims at a company which can impact being able your confidentiality being tightly protected. If you ever require a federal background check, personal information can be obtained via insurance.
    • Your care decisions are not decided by your insurance company (such as being told by your insurance company they will only cover 6-12 sessions for a calendar year). Even if your therapist justifies a need for more services, the insurance company can request personal information for the purpose of approving continued services and the continued services can still be declined. Instead, you and I make these decisions together, which allows me to give you the best counseling that I possibly can.
  • How do I pay for online therapy?

Payment is due at the time of service. I accept all major credit cards, Flexible Savings Accounts (FSA), and Health Savings Accounts (HSA).

  • What if I need to cancel a session?

If you are unable to attend a session, please cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours before the start of your session. If you cancel less than 24 hours in advance or do not show up for your session, you will be charged for the full rate of the session.

  • How long are appointments?

    Typically, around 50 minutes.

  • Who is KMR Therapy for?

KMR Therapy provides online and in-office mental health care to individuals 13 years and older. Our expert mental health therpaist can help with anxiety, depression, and many other common concerns. We offer personalized psychotherapy, clinically-proven therapy, and teen care.

  • How does KMR Therapy work?

KMR Therapy makes it easy to get life-changing mental health care from the comfort of your home. We offer Psychotherapy (medication), therapy, or both.

Here’s how care at KMR Therapy works

    1. Take a free assessment: Answer a few questions to help your provider better understand what you’re experiencing. View your results and choose Psychotherapy, therapy, or both.

    2. Meet with your expert provider: Choose your provider and book your 1:1 video session or in office session

    • For therapy: All of your therapy sessions are 45 minutes. Your therapist will ask some questions about you and your past experiences. Then you can talk about goals and go over how they can best support you.

    3. Follow your treatment plan: You can message your provider with questions at any time.

    • For therapy: Continue your 1:1 video sessions or in office session and complete self-guided lessons. Our self-paced lessons help you practice skill-building exercises that are proven to help you feel better. Your therapist will review your responses and provide guidance along the way.

    4. Track your progress, and start getting better: Share how you’re doing in check-in questionnaires so your provider can stay up to date.

    • For therapy: You and your therapist will typically meet weekly to talk about challenges and celebrate your progress. You can share what’s working well for you and where you want to go deeper. Your therapist will help guide you through your personalized program so you see the best results.
  • Who is the therapist?

    Kristina Ruiz

Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern, RMHCI

  • Do you take insurance?

No, currently at this time we do not accept insurance.

  • Is my information kept private?

KMR Therapy Health and its associated platform is HIPAA compliant and follows all HIPAA requirements including, but not limited to, the Privacy Rule. We encrypt data in transit and at rest. All communication with our software is done using signatures with a cryptographic hash algorithm. As well, all information is encrypted at rest once stored on our servers.

  • Why do you need to monitor my symptoms?

Mental health conditions are complicated. To make sure you are on the right treatment, and making appropriate progress, we will ask you to complete check-ins periodically to let us know how you’re doing. Your provider will review these check-ins to help them decide whether making an adjustment will help you get better, faster, and stay that way longer.

You can also use this information to track your own progress over time.

  • How do I get my medication?

Currently, we do not prescribe medications.

  • How can I get help if I’m in crisis?

Your safety is so important to us. If you are in emotional distress or thinking about hurting yourself at any point, please make use of these resources:

    • Visit: If you are having a medical or mental health emergency, call 911 or go to your local emergency department.
    • Call or Text: You can call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and be connected with a counselor 24/7. Your conversations are free and confidential.

There is always help available. We also recommend reaching out to a family member or friend to let them know that you need help and support.

If this is not a life-threatening emergency, KMR Therapy Health can help. Our Crisis Care program helps individuals who are experiencing suicidal thoughts and feelings and provides hope for the future. Please note that Crisis Care should not be used if you are seriously planning to harm yourself now or in the very near future. In those instances, 988 or 911 are appropriate resources, and we can be here to help in the future. At this time, Crisis Care is only available for individuals with accepted insurance. Please take the free assessment to check your eligibility.
